Meet Me
My name is Stephen Burrows and welcome to NZ Budget Adventures!
NZ Budget Adventures is an idea I thought up while flying back from a trip to the USA. Call it a ‘blog’ if you must, a travel guide? please no. The inspiration is in the name, just a collection of budget travelling hacks and musings to take advantage of in New Zealand.
Along the journey I hope to stretch your dollars further, maybe help with your itinerary while showing you a few of my adventures along the way.
About me I live just outside of Christchurch in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. While having a family changes the way you enjoy travel it doesn’t mean you cant, you just have to be creative. Before kids I managed to tick up 30 countries all around the globe and tick off many items on my bucket list; Usain Bolt run and win gold in the 100m at the Olympics in London, lying in bed watching the aurora grace the skies over Norway, drinking buckets while partying at full moon parties in Thailand and watching tornadoes dance on the plains of Oklahoma.
New Zealand Our dramatic landscapes may seem exclusive to those with deep pockets, but with savvy planning, you can enjoy the best this stunning country has to offer without breaking the bank. Sure, you could probably use AI to plan a trip, but here’s the thing: even as AI content floods the world, our preference for real human connection remains unchanged. People naturally gravitate toward authenticity, so I hope my experiences can genuinely help others.
Storm chasing I have to intertwine my other passion in here and yes its a hobby I mostly pursue on the plains of the Midwest, although I have seen 3 tornadoes in New Zealand. In 2007, I first chased storms in America ending with a week in New York, in what was my first taste of real international travel. I was just a small town kid in the big apple back then, but boy did it open my eyes, I haven’t stopped travelling or chasing since! I’ve now organized 4 trips back and have seen more than 30 tornadoes in the process including the above beauty near Dodge City, Kansas in 2016.
You can catch a podcast I was on in 2024 here about NZ Stormchasers.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope for the small part your attention has been grabbed and if you want to catch up with me in real time, check out my details above and be sure to subscribe to my socials!
Oh and please there is no need to point out all my typos or grammatical errors :p I think it was 50 cent who said You shouldn’t throw stones if you live in a glass house… and you know the rest of the quote.
